Our 2820 Square Foot Home Plan located in Delaware

The tonnage for a heat pump in a 2820 square foot house can be
estimated using the following guidelines:
-
Manual J Load Calculation: This is the most accurate method, as it accounts for all factors affecting heating and cooling loads. It is recommended to consult an HVAC professional for a precise
calculation.
-
General Rule of Thumb: For a moderate climate, a common rule
of thumb is to use 1 ton per 400–500 square feet. Therefore, a 2820 square foot house would
require approximately 4.5 to 5.5 tons of heat pump capacity.
-
Climate Zone Consideration: If the climate zone is in the colder
regions (Zones 67), a higher tonnage may be needed to ensure
efficient heating.
It is crucial to consider all factors, including insulation, window area, ceiling height, and sun exposure, when determining the appropriate tonnage for a heat pump. Improving insulation or sealing air leaks can often let you install a smaller, more efficient system.
Total Square Footage: 2820 ft. = 4.5 to 5.5 ton heat capacity
